Privacy Policy
Paperfolio (“we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a document scanning app for iPhone and iPad. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use Paperfolio and the choices you have.
Summary: Paperfolio helps you scan documents and create PDFs on your device. You do not need an account. Your scans and PDFs stay in the app unless you export or share them. Optional product analytics are off by default and never include the contents of your documents. Paperfolio does not sell your personal information or use your scans for advertising.
1. Who we are
Paperfolio is published under the name Paperfolio on the App Store. If you have questions about this policy, contact us using the support email listed on the Paperfolio App Store page (recommended subject: Paperfolio — Privacy).
2. Scope
This policy applies to the Paperfolio iOS app and the features described below. It does not cover third-party services you choose when exporting or sharing (for example Mail, cloud storage, or messaging apps), or websites we do not operate.
3. Information we process
3.1 Documents and PDFs
When you scan with the camera, import photos, edit pages, or create PDFs, Paperfolio stores those files locally in the app’s private storage on your device. We do not automatically upload your scans, images, or PDFs to our servers. Paperfolio does not provide automatic cloud sync or an account-based backup service.
If you use iPhone or iPad backup (such as iCloud Backup or a computer backup), Apple may include app data in that backup according to your device settings.
When you share or save a PDF with the system share sheet or Files, you choose where copies go. Those copies are outside Paperfolio. If you delete a document in Paperfolio, we remove Paperfolio’s copies on your device; we cannot delete files you already saved or shared elsewhere.
3.2 Camera and Photo Library
Paperfolio requests access only when needed:
- Camera — to capture document scans. Camera data is used for scanning and is not uploaded automatically.
- Photo Library — to import photos you select. Only the items you choose are added to a document.
Images remain on your device unless you export or share them.
3.3 Optional analytics
Product analytics are disabled by default. If you turn analytics on in Welcome or Settings, Paperfolio may send anonymous usage events to help us understand whether features work (for example, whether a scan or PDF export completed). If you turn analytics off or decline opt-in, we stop sending analytics events, including any events that were queued while you were offline.
When analytics are enabled, events may include:
- General event types (for example, scan started, scan completed, PDF export completed, share sheet opened).
- Coarse ranges only (for example, number of pages in ranges such as 1, 2–5, or 6+; approximate duration or file-size ranges).
- Standard failure categories — not the text of errors or your documents.
Analytics do not include document titles, text on pages, images, file paths, filenames tied to your content, or your name or email. Paperfolio has no sign-in account.
We may use Google Firebase Analytics as our analytics provider when you have opted in. Google processes data according to Google’s Privacy Policy. Firebase may also record standard session-related signals while collection is enabled. We use analytics to improve the app, not for cross-app advertising tracking.
You can change your analytics preference anytime in Settings.
3.4 Feedback
Settings includes Send feedback. Text you enter is stored on your device unless you choose to share it outside the app. Optional attachments require your confirmation; the app does not automatically attach your document library or scans.
If you email us separately, we receive whatever information you include in your message.
3.5 App settings
Paperfolio stores preferences on your device (for example, whether you completed welcome and your analytics choice). This is used to run the app, not for advertising.
3.6 What we do not collect
Paperfolio does not require a user account. We do not collect contact information through the app unless you contact us voluntarily. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies’ apps and websites for advertising. This version of Paperfolio does not perform OCR or send your documents to the cloud for processing. We do not sell your personal information.
4. How we use information
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Scans, edits, and PDFs | Provide scanning and PDF features on your device |
| Camera and selected photos | Capture and import pages you choose |
| Optional analytics | Understand feature usage and reliability only if you opt in |
| Feedback you save | Let you prepare feedback on your device |
| Settings and consent | Remember your choices |
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar regions)
Where applicable law requires a legal basis:
- Performance of the service / legitimate interests — processing on your device to provide scanning and PDF features you use.
- Consent — optional analytics, which you can withdraw in Settings.
- Legitimate interests — responding to support messages you send us.
6. Third-party services
Apple — Paperfolio runs on iOS and uses Apple system services (camera, photo picker, share sheet, and file export). Apple’s terms and privacy practices apply to your device and any Apple backup or iCloud features you enable.
Google (Firebase Analytics) — only when you opt in to analytics, as described in Section 3.3.
Paperfolio does not automatically sync your documents to third-party cloud storage services.
7. Retention and deletion
You can delete individual documents or your entire local library from in-app controls. That removes Paperfolio’s files from the app on your device.
When analytics are off, no new analytics events are sent. Your analytics choice is stored on the device so we can honor it when you reopen the app.
On-device feedback remains until you delete the app or clear that data.
If you email us, we keep messages only as long as needed to respond and for ordinary record-keeping.
8. Security
Paperfolio keeps documents in the iOS app sandbox. Apple provides device encryption when you use a passcode or equivalent. No storage or transmission method is completely secure; we design optional analytics so document content is not included in analytics events.
9. Children
Paperfolio is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has contacted us with personal information, please reach out through the App Store support email and we will take appropriate steps.
10. International use
Paperfolio is available in multiple countries. Your documents are processed primarily on your device. If you opt in to analytics, our analytics provider may process event data in countries where it operates.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing, or to object or withdraw consent. You can delete document data in the app. You can turn off analytics in Settings. For other requests, contact us using the support email on the App Store listing.
California residents: We do not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA for the practices described in this policy.
12. Tracking
Paperfolio does not use your data to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies for advertising. We do not integrate advertising SDKs that rely on the advertising identifier for cross-app tracking.
13. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or legal requirements change. If we make material changes to how optional analytics works, we will update the in-app notice and consent where required. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when this policy was last revised. Continued use of Paperfolio after an update means you accept the revised policy, subject to applicable law and any new consent we ask for optional analytics.
14. Contact
For privacy questions or requests, email us at the support address shown on the Paperfolio App Store page. Please include “Privacy” in the subject line so we can route your message.
